On Monday, July 29th, 2019, I went to the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital to interview some of the staff members alongside my team mates. This opportunity was provided for us by TStv (Toronto Student Media Network) – thank you!
All together we interviewed 5 different staff members that have very different and interesting jobs at the hosptial: Dr. Melanie Penner, Robyn Persaud, Shannon Crossman, Alexander Hodge of the BRI and Erin Johnston of the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation.
I was given the opportunity of interviewing Alexander Hodge who is a game developer at the Bloorview Rehabilitation Institute (BRI). Through this interview I was able to learn tons about his job as a game developer, his personal journey, the purpose of the games and the importance of the BRI in the life of the rehabilitation journey of the patients.
Alex spoke about the design process that incorporates feedback from the patients and the benefits of these games to the patients at the hospital. The fact that he incorporates patient feedback and suggestions, as in Alex’s words…”the kids know best!” was very appealing to me and I think that’s really great for the patients.
This interview, as well as this day, has really educated me about this hospital and all the wonderful things that are done at the hospital for patients and their families.
In addition, I am really happy that I was able to do some videography and photography as well as practice my interviewing skills – which I feel is a really valuable and important skill in my life.
I am very thankful for this opportunity to actually conduct an interview, especially with people of such importance, as I would never have had this opportunity otherwise.
In closing, thank you to TStv as well as Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital for giving me this learning opportunity!
I’m Jessica. You can watch my interview on Youtube with Alexander Hodge here: https://youtu.be/DsCRvN6l14Y
